As easy as it is to make breads of various types in your bread maker there unfortunately comes the time to clean it.Luckily most bread makers on the market are non stick which makes that cleaning so much easier.

Obviously the first thing you will want to do for safety sake is to unplug your bread maker. You definitely do not want the unit to accidentally turn on while you are cleaning it.If you have just finished making bread it would be a good idea to let it cool down before attempting to start your cleaning.

Sometimes, despite being nonstick, bread dough gets stuck to parts of the bread maker. As tempting as it is to get out something metallic like a butter knife to scrape away the stuck bits, don’t!Anything made of metal will most likely scratch the nonstick surface rendering it useless eventually.

Instead try a rubber or plastic spatula to break loose those stubborn pieces.Being nonstick you shouldn’t have too much trouble. But in the event that you do try wetting a paper towel and letting it soften up the dough and try again.

Once all the stuck bits and pieces are removed it is time to take the paddle or paddles(some models have two)out.Removing the paddle is going to make cleaning the pan just that much easier.

Cleaning the outside surface of the paddle is easy enough to clean with soapy water and a dish washing rag.But any cracks and crevices will need more attention.Again, avoid using metallic objects.Instead you might want to try using a toothbrush(new of course). The bristles will help scrape away any bits and pieces that may be stuck to the paddles.

With the paddle out, take a washcloth and soapy water and wipe out the pan. Some people advise filling the pan with hot soapy water and letting it soak.Don’t let it sit too long as this may loosen the nonstick coating.Do not immerse the pan in water as this will most likely ruin the gears on the underside.

Rinse out your washcloth and wipe the pan and paddle down with clean water to remove any soap residue.Dry the pan and paddle with a paper towel or clean washcloth.Reinstall the paddle into the pan and the pan into the machine.Wipe down the outside of the machine and you are done.
